The design journey for Diffusers of Divine Fragrances began with a creative vision to capture the book’s spiritual and historical essence. The initial mood board blended ornate, classic borders with a contemporary feel, abstracting a traditional floral motif into a modern “flower petal-esque window”. This elegant transformation visually connects the book’s title, which alludes to “divine fragrances,” with its spiritual and architectural themes. This careful approach ensured that the cover would not only be visually appealing but also a symbolic representation of the book’s content.
From that initial concept, the project moved into a meticulous execution phase. The interior layout was precisely crafted for readability, using the classic Garamond Pro font and a leading baseline grid to ensure consistency across all chapters. A crucial part of this process was addressing the “linguistic requirements” by correctly rendering Persian names with diacritics, such as Muṣṭafá Rúmí and Jalál Khádím. The cover’s final design, featuring a distinct green and gold color palette, reinforces the book’s authoritative tone as a historical work. Ultimately, the design and layout, which incorporates archival photographs to bring history to life, resulted in a final product praised as a “precious addition to his admirable collection of historical works”.
